The book Weapons of Math Destruction is a great read for those who want to be aware of the negative consequences that need to be thoughtfully considered when implementing artificial intelligence, to reduce the potential for unintended harm. The examples/case studies discussed really helped me consider AI in different contexts, and gain a new perspective on ethical issues in that space. The example the book provides of issues in an educational system may also be particularly pertinent as schools seek ways of optimizing remote education. Weapons will be on the recommended reading list for my upcoming discussion covering the IEEE 7010-2020 standard and helping others think through all the ethical considerations of using automation to improve workplace productivity.
